About Your Tutor
Di Hammill Page, got interested in Permaculture after she had her first baby 26 years ago. Concerned for the future of her new child she started reading all about how she could empower her new little family to live even more lightly on the Earth, to ensure children had a tomorrow that was worth inheriting.
After devouring Permaculture Magazine for a few years, she finally (two more children later), got time away from the home, to study at the Patrick Whitefield Permaculture Design Certificate Residential, where she says, her 'mind was blown'.
She had chosen well for her mentor and the location for his course. Ragmans Lane in Gloucestershire was a Permaculture farm, and the two week intense residential represented full immersion into Permaculture. She completed her PDC (Permaculture Design Certificate) with her final presentation in front of Patrick and the Ragmans Lane team in 2006.
After this, she travelled with the children to stay in various Permaculture Communities around the U.K and Europe, working for their keep. The youngest child strapped in a home-made sling, as they worked communally in the gardens, kitchens and the craft workshops.
Finally, she was ready to give everything up and live with her three children in an off-grid caravan, an experience she says was only possible because she had learned to Permaculture her life. She had learned to live with very little and as efficiently as Nature herself; Di believes without her knowledge of Permaculture principles and methods that parenting three small children alone, off-grid with nothing would have been much harder.
After running Wild Harvest School for a decade she decided to add Permaculture to the list of teaching she offered. Attending Leeds Permaculture Network courses as a shadow tutor to learn how to format a course and how to create learning opportunities in Permaculture. She began offering day courses from Wild Harvest in 2015. Six years later this popular day course is now available online, right here!
Wild Harvest School is also an organisational member of the Permaculture Association and in 2019 got to attend their Christmas Dinner. Our site here, in the rural outskirts of York, U.K is a 'LAND' demonstration site.
On behalf of Wild Harvest Di has given talks on living by Nature; on BBC, Channel Four and at National Shows including at Alexander Palace for the Centenary show of the Womens Institute, where she was challenged to convert the W.I members to Permaculture.
In this Online Permaculture course you will learn not only the basics of Permaculture as taught by many books/courses but especially Di's unique interpretation of it, but mostly how you can apply that in your own landscape.
Some Reviews From Our Past Permaculture Students.
"Went on a permaculture course at the weekend - Di’s such a knowledgeable teacher, she’s the kind of person you’d like to mind-meld with… If you’re interested in sustainability I can only recommend Wild Harvest School of Self-Reliance"

"Had a lovely day learning about Permaculture .... from a smooth transaction to purchase and good instructions of how to find the location, to a warm-friendly welcome that greeted us; first impressions were already great. No matter what your level of knowledge, Di delivers engaging information in a way that captures your mind and leaves you wanting to get home and start creating your own haven of self-reliance. With a lovely cosy cabin to sit and learn, amongst a view where the practical element of Permaculture is becoming evident on the farm; it is a brilliant experience. We are looking forward to learning Foraging next"

"Thank you for yesterday, the day was a really interesting and I am hoping to change a few things in our garden if I can convince my husband. I think the first thing we will do is make a wild area. I will keep checking your site for other events. "

I came on a permaculture course with Di, I can honestly say this really changed my way of thinking about the world completely and yes I would certainly say changed my life..I began to see permaculture not just as a method of gardening it is truly a way of life which is much a gentler and kinder way of living on our earth..I can certainly say from that day onwards I permacultured my whole life I had a new way of thinking about things..I came home with a hunger to know more and with my list of recommended books from di I lost myself into this new world of permaculture.. I can not highly recommend this course enough, Di is a great teacher who is passionate about sustainable living
