Basket weaving courses in York
Come basket weaving at Wild Harvest School near York to learn how to make your own pretty, round willow basket. Hand made using English willow.
The Structure of Our Basket Weaving Workshop...
During the day you will learn how to do two types of basket weave - a pairing weave and a three rod wale. The morning is spent making your basket base in our cosy workshop in the rural outskirts of York where there is a proper loo and ample free parking. After lunch you will learn a new weave for the basket walls and at the end of the day each student gets one to one with Di to learn a complicated three rod wale border that finishes your hand made basket off with a plaited effect edge.
Di from Wild Harvest School has been running basket weaving courses in Yorkshire for 20 years and has been said to be a calm patient and knowlegable teacher.
Class sizes for our Yorkshire based basket weaving courses are small - about 6 for inside courses or 14 for outside willow workshops with two tutors. Full of likeminded crafters, usually all beginners. Some may have made a woven willow animal at a fair before, but all are in the same boat as you, wanting to learn something new in a friendly space!
Our booking process is simple, visit the page, check your date and add guest number (just you or are you basket weaving with a friend?) Then 'check-out' using a range of safe, easy payment options from credit or debit card, paypal or even Klarna if you want to spread your payments interest-free.
Di has been featured on Channel 4 and BBC for her self-sufficiency skill teaching and even taught willow weaving to Countryfile Presenters.
If you wish to buy this as a gift - choose our private basket weaving course experience and the e-voucher will be delivered by email to your loved one on their special day. (Valid for two guests).

"My sister and I went along to the Wild Harvest School Basket weaving day without really knowing what to expect, we had dabbled a bit before at a country show, weaving willow but never made a basket before. The venue was easy to find and the workshop in a little tipi site in York was the perfect backdrop for our weaving day. The tutor was friendly and patient and we both left with lots of knowledge about willow, some willow cuttings to grow to make future baskets, and of course our beautiful willow baskets." Mary. C
"Just outside York I highly recommend this little gem of a venue and the wild harvest basket making workshop, fab tuition, amazing knowledge and great value for money." Jo. B

We believe this education should be accessible and aim to price to cover our costs and pay our taxes but also be affordable to you. Sustainable education should not be an elite subject but should be accessible to all. We are not grant funded though so please don't expect us to compete with free temporary initiatives using public money.
