Basket weaving courses in York
Discover the Art of Basket Weaving in Yorkshire with Di Hammill Page of Wild Harvest School – Your Ultimate Basket Making Course in Yorkshire 🌿🧺
Join us for a basket weaving course that’s perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I offer a patient and calm environment to help you master the timeless craft of basket making. 🌸
Why Learn Basket Weaving in Yorkshire?
Our basket making courses are held centrally in the country, at our tipi site on the rural outskirts of York, where you can enjoy the fresh air and peaceful surroundings while getting hands-on with willow.
Basket weaving is more than just a craft; it’s an art that connects you with nature, tradition, and your own creativity. Whether you're looking to make beautiful baskets for your home, gifts for loved ones, or just want to try something new, my courses offer you the perfect introduction.
During the day you will learn:
- Some Willow Facts (how to grow or harvest, and how to prepare)
- How to make the basket base using a 'pairing weave'
- How to insert the uprights, and 'prick-up'
- How to weave the walls of your basket using a three rod wale weave.
- How to create a complicated plaited effect border that really finishes off your basket (see pics).
What Makes My Basket Weaving Course Special? 🌿✨
Experience You Can Trust:
With over 20 years of teaching basket weaving, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching thousands of students and have been featured on the BBC and Channel 4. I’ve even taught Countryfile Presenters how to weave willow. Whether you’re making your first basket or looking to refine your skills, just know you can relax here and have fun!
Peaceful, Inspiring Location:
Escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Courses take place either inside a cosy workshop with a wood-burning stove, in Winter... or in Spring/Summer/Autumn; outside on the picnic benches overlooking the countryside, surrounded by the willow that Di has planted. You can even take cuttings to grow at home!
Patient, Supportive Teaching Style:
I understand that learning a new craft can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first time weaving or coming on a day course alone. I’m here to support you, answer your questions, and guide you at your own pace.
Thorough
Unlike some courses that only teach you a pairing weave and a simple track border, at Wild Harvest, we work you hard! As you are spending a day making your basket we want you to LOVE it! This means that you learn TWO different weaves and perfectly finish your basket with a complicated plaited style three rod wale border. The border requires 1:1 tuition for the last ten minutes of your basket, meaning the attention to detail in our courses is much greater.
Highly Reviewed – Join a Community of Happy Crafters!
Read our fab reviews below. Many of our lovely customers return for additional courses to expand their skills and explore new crafts. You’ll be joining a vibrant, friendly community of fellow crafters who are always eager to share tips and celebrate each other’s progress.
Create Beautiful, Handcrafted Baskets:
By the end of the course, you’ll have a handmade basket to take home, along with the skills to make many more in the future!
Whether you want to create a basket, for eggs, flowers, wool and crafts, or kindling, you’ll find that the skills you learn are versatile and can be adapted to a variety of styles.
Why Basket Weaving is Perfect for You! 🎨✨
Basket weaving is more than just a fun activity—it’s an opportunity to slow down, focus, and connect with your creative side. It’s not just about creating something beautiful, it’s about enjoying the process and the satisfaction that comes with making something with your own hands.
