My name is Di Hammill Page and I have been teaching basket weaving courses in and around Yorkshire for 20 years.

Based in the rural outskirts of York on a farm...

Wild Harvest Schools Cosy Craft Workshop can be accessed easily from the North, South, East and West of Yorkshire. Relevant roads to look up are... A1, A19, M62, A1079 or simply type Wild Harvest School into Google or Apple Maps and you will get directions to the door.

Furthermore, our basket weaving courses start at a not-too-unearthly hour to allow for a relaxed drive here.

Our usual start times for basket workshops are 10.30am or 11.30am. Sadly we are not on a public transport route. Some folk have got the train to York station then a taxi here, and normally manage to bag a lift back to York off a new basket weaving friend made on the day!

Facilities

We have a free car park on site, and all the terrain is flat, just the odd small step. There is also a ground floor loo and we ply you with hot drinks and snack bars as you weave.

A Basket in A Day

Our basket weaving day courses are just that - a basket in a day. No ongoing commitment to coming each week. You will arrive an absolute beginner (or maybe you have woven some willow at school or at a festival) and by the end of the day leave with a sturdy, basket for life that should easily last you 20 years or more.

Suitable For Beginners

As a qualified adult ed. tutor, over the years I’ve nailed the art of making sure that this amazing, practical and traditional craft is available to even the most craft-shy beginners, with everyone finishing their basket with a fancy plaited effect, three-rod wale border.

Using English Grown Willow

We use only English Grown Willow, our supplier being Somerset Willow Growers, and you will use buff willow for your first basket weaving course due to it being easier on the hands than brown willow. Buff willow is stripped of the tough bark so is more pliable for beginners. Brown willow does look lovely and rustic with the bark on but it takes so much longer to soak and mellow and can be quite hard for beginners to manipulate. If you really want Brown willow though we can organise that on any private one to one days. I really only recommend this for students who have been to us before, maybe on a group course and who now want to come back for a private booking.

I warn you now; willow weaving is addictive! Today a basket; next week a coffin and the week after you will be planning three new woven garden fences!
